When you’re hammering through a bunch of meetings, road-dogging it, a workout will help you get your head straight, work off the booze from the “work meeting” the night before, or both. And since you’re in a new place, it’s a great excuse to try something different from your typical workout routine. Check out some of our fave gyms across the US.
The Los Angeles Athletic Club
Los Angeles, California
Although the LA Athletic Club has been around since 1880, the 72-room hotel just opened recently. Stay here and you’ll have access to the member’s only club that’s a massive 88,000 square feet. Swim laps in a pool that Olympians have splashed around in, crash the boards on the full-size (and beautiful) basketball court or smack the ball around: squash, racquetball, and handball. Want more? There’s also an indoor track as well as yoga, indoor cycling, and Pilates classes.
W San Francisco Hotel
San Francisco, California
If the old school luxury of the Los Angeles Athletic Club has a complementary opposite, it’s the W San Francisco. With lights that change color and a futuristic vibe, the FIT Gym feels like trendy, VIP nightclub. And it’s got the hours of Ibiza nightclub: the 1,875 square foot spot that’s filled with cardio and strength training machines is open 24-7. Personal trainers are also available. And because a little Vitamin D is good for you, there’s also a dramatic skylight.
Hilton Anatole Hotel
Dallas, Texas
Located on seven acres, you can’t go wrong with a quick, early morning run around the grounds of the Anatole. Inside, the 80,000 square foot Verandah Club is stocked with cardio machines with individual 15″ screens as well as free weights. Wanna throw some punches? Check out the boxing gym–hitting pads for a few rounds is an incredible workout. Or take a Spinning, Barre, or group fitness class. Or add to your run with some time in the 25-meter lap pool.
Westin New York at Times Square
Manhattan, New York
In the old days, you got your exercise in Times Square by running away from unsavory types. No longer. The Westin New York is as large as Woody Allen is insecure: the 45-story tower has 873 guest rooms and a WestinWORKOUT Gym that never sleeps (it’s open 24-7) and includes cardio and free weights. Left your shoes at home? No problem. New Balance sneaks are available. But if you really want to do yourself a favor, check out the new concierge program, that includes tennis lessons, sunrise hikes, golf lessons at Chelsea Piers, and surfing at Rockaway Beach.
The Ritz-Carlton Boston Common
Boston, Massachusetts
The Green Monster of hotel gyms, the onsite-Equinox health club is a mammoth 114,000 square feet. So big, you could almost be forgiven for not taking a quick run through the beautiful Boston Common, checking out the Swan Boats, nodding to Norm as you sprinted by Cheers before doing a few hill repeats in Beacon Hill. Almost. In the gym enjoy the latest workout equipment, full-size b-ball court, and four international squash courts. Want a class? You’re in college-crazy Boston: choose from more than 100 classes that are offered weekly.
